Midnight Dance – Story
His almost white hair was the canvas of the setting sun. His green eyes had been the color of summer?s first leaf. His lips got closer to mine. I leaned into his light red lips. My heart beat like the drums of an ancient tribal festival. I opened my eyes, there was nothing. The sun had set more than the mountainous horizon and with it he had disappeared. I looked up in the sky where only the brightest couple of had been visible. I stayed like that, unmoving, until the moon was well more than my head and many stars had joined the 1st couple of. He had warned me. He had warned me that he couldn?t stay. He had told me that the sun?s last ray was his last minute countless times, but I always forgot. Well, these had been the consequences of loving a nameless. If only… If only the Earth played by my rules instead of its own, but it doesn?t.
I began my way via the marshes careful not to soil my red, silk, dress. He had gotten it for me, just the thought of him made my eyes sparkle with unshed tears.
I continued my way by means of the marshes and soon I could see the lights of Aria just ahead of me. I stopped right there and inhaled the faint woody scent of the secluded forest I met him at. I started walking again, listening to ever one of my footsteps crackle against the dry grass.
Soon sufficient I could see my home. It looked like a rock compared to a gemstone, but I was content. It wasn?t great but it had everything that I needed. I fingered one of the silver keys on my neck, and let my finger go more than it?s grooves more than and more than again until I had memorized the feel of them. I took another step, hoping that no one would notice or think about why I was coming home at 2 o?clock. I was almost in the steps when Mrs. Lawson?s door creaked open, creating a shower of light on the thin strip of cobblestones around her house. She poked her neck out and slowly looked the area more than 180 degrees. She did it twice a lot more as if trying to find me but finally her hawk nose disappeared back into the house. I exhaled the breath that I had unconsciously been holding and I knew it still wasn?t safe to move. Mrs. Lawson?s curtain had moved just a sliver but sufficient to let her narrowed eyes see outside. I inhaled roughly and exhaled very slowly. If she saw me she would report me to the “Unlawful?s” with out a second thought and that could be the end of me. Her narrowed eyes finally had been hidden from view and the square of bright light the window had been completely diminished.
Finally the original darkness of the night claimed my eyes and I was able to see where to walk again. There was just one last stretch of space between my door and I but it meant everything. I sighed and hopped to my door staying immersed in the darkest shadows as I moved. I stood on my doorstep breathing hard this was 3rd time in 5 nights that I had done one thing illegal. I took off my necklace and swiftly slid of the gold key. This was the key that had once decided my destiny, now it was the silver one. I thrust the key into the door twisting it twice and stepped inside. I shut the door and slumped against it. Why was I such an idiot? He had warned me that it was dangerous going that close to the border, but I was foolish. It was addicting to be so close to some thing prohibited. Just a couple of steps and I could be in no-mans-land but that was in theory of course. Today there was an electric fence separating me from the other side but never-less I was a dreamer. One day I could join the nameless away from the corrupt government officials.
I zoned back in and walked more than to my twin sized bed, a luxury to some who lived here. I took down my golden hair and let my eyes close and dream about where tomorrow would take me.
